Day of Defiance

My mid-afternoon, I still hadn't been paid. I also hadn't heard back from the district's junior supervisor, or my contact at the Gyeongsangnam Provincial Office of Education. So, I jotted an e-mail off to the Footprints employee here in Korea, and hoped for the best.

I was still deep in culture shock and experiencing some homesickness, so I "acted out." I decided that today would be my Day of Defiance and I would break many of the Korean customs that I had been following thus far.

So, I...

  • walked around in my apartment with my shoes on,...
  • ate my sushi with a fork...
  • took my change at the store with only one hand,...
  • made a loud "tsk, tsk" noise when a man cut in line
  • and finally, i did not sit in my assigned seat at the movie theater.
Once I got that out of my system, I came home and found that although none of my superiors had returned my e-mails, I had been paid! So, Seoul here I come!

  3. Haha, too funny and cute. I wish I had been a part of this as it had happened. What a goofy, albeit informative, post.
